Michael Jackson Lives: Investigating His Birth Time 1970-1974
Part three of an eleven-part series by Nick Dagan Best
1970
February 21, 1970
The Jackson 5 released their second single, ABC, on February 21, 1970. That day, the band appeared on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand to promote it. Like I Want You Back before it, ABC would go to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The transiting Moon is conjunct Michael’s natal Sun in Virgo, in his 4th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 7th house using the Pisces Ascendant, with transiting Venus conjunct the Ascendant and North Node in Pisces.
Transiting Jupiter was making its retrograde station conjunct Michael’s natal Neptune in Scorpio. With Gemini rising, this transit is in his 6th house. With Pisces rising, it is in his 9th house.
May 10, 1970
The Jackson 5 made their second appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on May 10, 1970, just as their second LP, ABC, and third single, The Love You Save, were being released. They performed ABC (at the time holding the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100), I Want You Back and their new single, The Love You Save. At one point in Martin Bashir’s 2003 TV interview special, Living With Michael Jackson, Michael was shown quietly watching the footage from this night.
The previous week, on May 2nd, the group made their debut live appearance as a Motown act at the Philadelphia Convention Center, where they were already being mobbed by hysterical teenage fans.
Transiting Mars and Venus pre-retrograde were conjunct in Gemini. With Gemini rising, this transit is conjunct the Ascendant, square the Moon in Pisces in the 10th house. With Pisces rising, it is square the Moon in the 1st house.
Transiting Jupiter retrograde was conjunct Michael’s natal Jupiter in Libra. This transit is in the 5th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 8th house using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Mercury retrograde in Taurus was square Michael’s natal Venus in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 12th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 3rd house. Using the Pisces rising, the transiting North Node is conjunct the Ascendant.
June 20, 1970
Six weeks after their live debut in Philadelphia, the Jackson 5 played a show at The Forum in Inglewood, California on June 20, 1970 (they had done a special opening gig for Ike & Tina Turner and Rare Earth at San Francisco’s Cow Palace the previous night), where they broke attendance records with 18,675 paid admissions, grossing $105,000.
Michael described the experience soon after it happened:
“In San Francisco and Los Angeles, it looked like the walls were falling the way hundreds of them, the girls, came at the stage all together; but we have to practice getting away too, so we’re ready to drop everything and run.
“Jermaine dropped his guitar and took off at the Forum concert. We can always get a new guitar for him, but he’d be kinda hard to replace. It’s too bad really, ’cause we can’t finish the show the way we rehearsed. We always have to run off stage, and we can’t thank the audience and stuff, you know the way we’d really like too, we just have to run away.”
Now with three number one singles in a row, the group was enjoying a level of success that they would struggle to repeat in later years – except, of course, for Michael who was just beginning his life as a pop superstar.
Transiting Jupiter was stationing direct conjunct Michael’s natal Jupiter in Libra. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 5th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 8th house.
The transiting South Node was conjunct Michael’s natal Sun in Virgo. This transit is in the 4th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 7th house using the Pisces Ascendant.
September 8, 1970
The Jackson 5’s third album, imaginatively titled Third Album, was released on September 8, 1970, two weeks ater the release of their fourth single, I’ll Be There, which would become their fourth-straight number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in October-November.
Michael, who turned twelve as the single and album were released, sang the ballad with an emotional conviction that is rare for a singer of any age. Listeners could only be all the more impressed by the fact that they thought they were hearing a ten-year-old boy bare his heart and soul.
Transiting Venus (pre-retrograde) and Jupiter were conjunct Michael’s natal Neptune in Scorpio. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 6th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 9th house.
Transiting Saturn stationed retrograde conjunct Michael’s natal Mars in Taurus. This transit is in the 12th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 3rd house using the Pisces Ascendant.
The transiting South Node and Mars were conjunct Michael’s natal Pluto in Virgo. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 4th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 7th house.
The transiting Sun and Mercury retrograde in Virgo were opposite Michael’s natal Moon in Pisces. This transit spans the 4th and 10th houses using the Gemini Ascendant, and spans the 7th and 1st houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
1971
January 31, 1971
The Jackson 5 returned to Gary, Indiana as conquering heroes of the pop charts on January 31, 1971, where they performed a pair of concerts at West Side High School.
Although the entire Jackson family relocated to California at the end of 1969, the formerly local boys were honored by the city, and the street they had lived on (Jackson Avenue) was renamed “Jackson Five Avenue” for the occasion.
That same month, their fifth single, Mama’s Pearl, was released, reaching number two on the charts.
The transiting South Node was conjunct Michael’s natal Mercury retrograde in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 3rd house, opposite the Midheaven in Aquarius. With Pisces rising, it is in the 6th house.
Transiting Saturn in Taurus was square Michael’s natal Uranus and Venus in Leo and the transiting Sun in Aquarius. This transits spans the 12th, 3rd and 9th houses using the Gemini Ascendant, and spans the 3rd, 6th and 12th houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Mars in Sagittarius was square Michael’s natal Sun in Virgo. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 7th and 4th houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 10th and 7th houses.
Transiting Jupiter and Neptune were now conjunct in Sagittarius, making a recurrence of Michael’s natal Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Scorpio-Sagittarius. This transit is in the 7th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 10th house using the Pisces Ascendant.
April 12, 1971
The Jackson 5 released their fourth studio album (not counting the Christmas LP they released at the end of 1970), Maybe Tomorrow, on April 12, 1971, featuring the single Never Can Say Goodbye, which became their sixth top ten hit in a row.
That same week, they appeared on Diana Ross’ TV special, Diana!, which was discussed in my last article on Michael Jackson.
Transiting Venus was conjunct Michael’s natal Moon in Pisces. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 10th house, square the Ascendant. With Pisces rising, it is in the 1st house.
Transiting Saturn was conjunct Michael’s natal Mars in Taurus, square the transiting Lunar Nodes in Aquarius-Leo. This transit spans the 12th, 9th and 3rd houses, and is also square the Midheaven in Aquarius, using the Gemini Ascendant, and spans the 3rd, 12th and 6th house using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Mercury retrograde in Taurus opposite Neptune in Scorpio. With Gemini rising, this transit spans the 12th and 6th houses. With Pisces rising, it spans the 3rd and 9th houses.
Of course, as discussed in my last blog, Michael was having his first Jupiter-Neptune recurrence transit during this period, both retrograde in Sagittarius. This transit is in the 7th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 10th house using the Pisces Ascendant.
May 5, 1971
The Jackson family lived in various rented homes in the Los Angeles area for the first year and a half after their relocation, but finally, in February 1971, they bought their own home in Encino, California, moving in on May 5, 1971 (the day after Katherine and Jackie Jackson’s birthdays).
This is the house that Michael would live in until he moved into Neverland in 1988. It has been said that Michael felt the family began to grow apart when they moved into the Encino house, so large that it afforded each family member personal space that would have been unheard of in their Gary days.
The transiting South Node was now conjunct Michael’s natal Venus in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 3rd house, opposite the Midheaven in Aquarius. With Pisces rising, it is in the 6th house.
Transiting Mercury just made its direct station conjunct Michael’s natal South Node in Aries. This transit is in the 11th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 2nd house using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Jupiter retrograde and Neptune retrograde were still conjunct, making a recurrence of Michael’s natal Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Libra-Scorpio. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 7th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 10th house.
May 29, 1971
The Jackson 5 returned to their home state again on May 29, to perform live at Indianapolis’ Market Square Arena, where they were filmed for their upcoming TV special, Goin’ Back To Indiana, which I already discussed in my previous article about Michael Jackson.
Transiting Venus and Mercury in Taurus were square transiting Mars (pre-retrograde) and the North Node in Aquarius, and also square Michael’s natal Uranus and Venus in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit spans the 12th, 9th and 3rd houses. With Pisces rising, it spans the 3rd, 12th and 6th houses.
Transiting Jupiter and Neptune retrograde were still conjunct, making a recurrence of Michael’s natal Jupiter-Neptune conjunct in Libra-Scorpio. This transit is in the 7th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 10th house using the Pisces Ascendant.
July 9, 1971
The Jackson 5 taped the studio portion of the Goin’ Back To Indiana TV special in Hollywood on July 9-10, 1971, where they were joined by comedians Bill Cosby and Tommy Smothers, singers Bobby Darin and Diana Ross, football players Roosevelt “Rosey” Grier, and Ben Davidson, and basketball stars Bill Russell, Elgin Baylor, and Elvin Hayes.
No longer limited to guest appearances on other people’s shows (a regular practice during this point in their career), the brothers were now a big enough name to draw their own audience, who tuned in as enthusiastically to the special as they did to the new Jackson 5ive Saturday morning cartoon that also made its debut in September.
Transiting Jupiter in Scorpio was square Michael’s natal Mercury retrograde in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 6th and 3rd houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 9th and 6th houses.
Transiting Mars in Aquarius was making its retrograde station square Michael’s natal Mars in Taurus. This transit is also conjunct the 9th house Midheaven in Aquarius using the Gemini Ascendant, connecting to natal Mars in the 12th, and connects the 12th and 3rd houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
September 11, 1971
The Jackson 5ive cartoon series began airing on Saturday mornings on September 11, 1971, as discussed in my last blog about Michael Jackson.
Although actors were used to do the speaking roles in place of the group’s members, every episode still featured genuine Jackson 5 music.
Transiting Saturn was about to make its retrograde station in Gemini, square Michael’s natal Sun in Virgo. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 1st and 4th houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 4th and 7th houses.
Transiting Mercury was making its direct station in Virgo, square Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Sagittarius, which was also just making its direct station, again emphasizing the recurrence of Michael’s natal Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Libra-Scorpio. This transit connects the 4th, 6th and 7th houses using the Gemini Ascendant, and connects the 7th, 9th and 10th houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
October 7, 1971
Michael’s first solo single, Got To Be There, was released on October 7, 1971, in advance of his debut solo album of the same name, which would come out early the following year.
Also around this time, the Jackson 5 taped their first of two appearances on the Flip Wilson Show, which broadcast on November 4th.
Transiting Saturn retrograde in Gemini was still square Michael’s natal Sun in Virgo. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 1st and 4th houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 4th and 7th houses.
Transiting Venus was conjunct Michael’s natal North Node in Libra. This transit is in the 5th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 8th house using the Pisces Ascendant.
Michael was still having the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction recurrence transit when the single was released. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 7th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 10th house.
1972
January-March 1972
Michael’s secondary progressed Moon made a conjunction to his natal Sun in Virgo sometime in early 1972. With Gemini rising, the progressed-to-natal conjunction occurred in January 1972. With Pisces rising, it occurred in March 1972.
January 24, 1972
Michael’s debut solo album, also called Got To Be There, was released on January 24, 1972. A moderate success, along with the gorgeous title track it also featured Rockin’ Robin and I Wanna Be Where You Are, both of which would become hit singles in the coming year.
Around this time, Michael and brother Jackie gave a television interview with Robert Abernethy, whose persistent questions about the inevitability of Michael’s puberty foreshadowed his growth in the coming year.
Transiting Mercury in Capricorn was square transiting Mars in Aries and transiting Uranus in Libra, the Mercury-Mars square making a recurrence of Michael’s natal Mars-Mercury square. With Gemini rising, this transit spans the 11th, 5th and 8th houses. With Pisces rising, it spans the 2nd, 8th, and 11th houses.
Transiting Venus is conjunct the Ascendant in the Pisces rising chart.
June 30, 1972
The Jackson Five released their fifth studio album, Lookin’ Through The Windows, on May 23, 1972, as both the Jackson family and Jackson 5 were experiencing changes to the status quo.
Brother Tito became the first married member of the band when he married his girlfriend, Dee Dee Martes, on June 17th, just before the band went on their summer U.S. tour.
The tour itself was different this time, because little brother Randy Jackson joined the band as a conga player, although they didn’t change the name to the Jackson 6. No longer the baby of the group, Michael saw Randy now getting some of the special attention he used to enjoy, even though he was still the lead singer.
The tour kicked off with a show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on June 30, 1972.
The following day, Michael and his brothers appeared on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, where they performed their new single (the title track from the new album) and Michael performed Rockin’ Robin and I Wanna Be Where You Are from his first solo album, Got To Be There, and his brand new single, Ben, the title song for a new movie of the same name about a rat (Michael’s favorite animal at the time), which soon became his first solo number one hit.
Although clearly still a child, Michael’s legs were visibly longer than they had been just a few months earlier, foreshadowing the inevitable and impending physical changes that, as a self-proclaimed “Peter Pan”, he would soon wish never happened.
Just prior to this, Michael taped an appearance on The Dating Game, where he quizzed three eager bachelorettes before selecting a lucky winner, whose prize was to attend the June 30th New York concert as Michael’s guest.
Transiting Saturn and Venus retrograde in Gemini were opposite Michael’s natal Saturn in Sagittarius. With Gemini rising, this transit was conjunct the Ascendant in the 1st house. With Pisces rising, this transit is in the 4th house, also opposite the Midheaven.
September 27-October 1, 1972
The Jackson 5 were among a stellar roster of black artists performing at Jesse Jackson’s PUSH Expo ‘72 benefit concert in Chicago, sometime during the week of September 27-October 1, 1972.
The show was filmed and included in the concert movie Save The Children, which was released the following year.
Now fourteen years old, Michael’s voice was just starting to show signs of pubescent change, although admittedly that change wasn’t as profound as it is for most boys who are becoming men.
He still sang brilliantly, but a touch of strain could now be detected as he sang songs that suited his voice better just a year earlier.
Transiting Saturn in Gemini was stationing retrograde this same week, opposite Michael’s natal Saturn in Sagittarius. With Gemini rising, this transit is, of course, in the 1st house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 4th houses, also opposite the Midheaven.
November 12, 1972
The Jackson 5’s first European tour occurred in November 1972, culminating with a show at the Empire Pool in Wembley, England on November 12, 1972. As was the norm wherever they played, hysterical fans greeted them with the same level of enthusiasm that the U.S. had greeted the Beatles with almost nine years earlier. As in Chicago six weeks earlier, Michael was clearly now in the midst of puberty, a fact even his soft, tenor voice couldn’t hide.
The group also taped appearances on Britain’s Top of the Pops TV program and a Royal Variety Performance for Queen Elizabeth during this trip.
Transiting Mars was conjunct Michael’s natal Jupiter in Libra. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 5th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 8th house.
Transiting Saturn retrograde in Gemini was still opposite Michael’s natal Saturn in Sagittarius, square his natal Moon in Pisces. This transit is also conjunct the Ascendant using the Gemini rising chart, and opposite the Midheaven in Sagittarius using the Pisces rising chart.
Transiting Venus and Uranus were approaching conjunction in Libra, making a recurrence of Michael’s natal Uranus-Venus conjunction in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 5th and 3rd houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 8th and 6th houses.
Transiting Mercury was just about to station retrograde in Sagittarius. Using Pisces rising, this transit is square the Ascendant from the 10th house.
December 1972-February 1973
Michael’s secondary progressed Moon and secondary progressed Sun made a conjunction in Virgo sometime in late 1972 or early 1973. With Gemini rising, the progressed conjunction occurred in December 1972. With Pisces rising, it occurred in February 1973.
1973
March 27, 1973
Michael’s hit song, Ben, from the soundtrack of the movie of the same name, was nominated for a Best Original Song Academy Award in 1973. Michael sang it at the ceremony on March 27, 1973, looking visibly older than he had when the song was released the previous summer. Unfortunately, Ben didn’t win the trophy that night.
That same night, Michael’s future close friend, Liza Minnelli, won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Cabaret, beating out Michael’s other good friend, Diana Ross, who had been nominated for her role in The Lady Sings The Blues.
Earlier this same month, Katherine Jackson filed for divorce from Joseph Jackson after learning recently that a mistress of his had miscarried a child. Although the suit was eventually dropped, it would not be the last time she would try to end the marriage, nor the last time she would eventually decided against it.
Transiting Mercury was making its direct station conjunct Michael’s natal Moon in Pisces, square transiting Saturn in Gemini. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 10th and 1st houses, with Saturn conjunct the Ascendant. With Pisces rising, the transit connects the 1st and 4th houses.
April 30, 1973
The Jackson 5 toured Japan for the first time in April 1973, where they were already wildly popular.
A live album was recorded at Osaka’s Koseinenkin Hall on April 30, 1973, although it wasn’t released outside Japan until 2004. The group played well, but Michael’s voice still showed slight signs of strain due to his physical changes at the time.
Transitng Neptune in Sagittarius was square Michael’s natal Sun in Virgo. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 7th and 4th houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 10th and 7th houses.
Transiting Venus in Taurus was square Michael’s natal Venus in Leo. This transit connects the 12th and 3rd houses using the Gemini Ascendant, and connects the 3rd and 6th houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Mars in Aquarius was opposite Michael’s natal Mercury retrograde in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit spans the 9th and 3rd houses. With Pisces rising, it spans the 12th and 6th houses.
Transiting Saturn in Gemini was still opposite Michael’s natal Saturn in Sagittarius. This transit is also conjunct the Ascendant using the Gemini rising chart, and is opposite the Midheaven in Sagittarius using the Pisces rising chart.
September 12, 1973
The Jackson 5’s next studio album, Get It Together, was a strong album that enjoyed moderate success, but the group was clearly experiencing a decline in popularity.
Musically, their sound had matured from bubblegum pop to hard funk/proto-disco, which may have been over the heads of their young audience (I happen to think it is their best album).
Michael was now fifteen years old, and although he could no longer rely on the pre-pubescent charm that helped make him a star, he continued to grow as a performer.
The last song on the album, Dancing Machine, became a feature for a new dance routine, “the robot” (first used during the Japan concerts the previous spring), that would become an MJ trademark – at least until the moonwalk (or “back slide”) came along a decade later.
That autumn, the group’s TV appearances included a Bob Hope special and Soul Train.
Transiting Venus was conjunct Michael’s natal Jupiter in Libra. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 5th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 8th house.
Transiting Jupiter was two weeks from stationing direct in Aquarius, square Michael’s natal Neptune in Scorpio. This transit connects the 9th and 6th houses using the Gemini Ascendant, and connects the 12th and 9th houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Uranus and Venus in Libra were making a recurrence of Michael’s natal Uranus-Leo conjunction in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 5th and 3rd houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 8th and 6th houses.
Transiting Mars was about to station retrograde in Taurus, just as it was when Michael was born fifteen years earlier. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 12th house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 3rd house.
The synodic cycle of Mars (its geocentric cycle relative to the Sun) is such that Mars goes retrograde in an earlier zodiacal position every fifteen years, receding between approximately one tropical sign earlier with every successive fifteen-year period. The number of degrees varies depending on the given Tropical sign, since the Sun’s geocentric path travels at different speeds throughout the year.
For instance, Michael was born in 1958, forty-one days before Mars stationed retrograde at 2 Gemini (more on that later). In 1973, as Get It Together was released, Mars was about to station retrograde at 9 Taurus. Fifteen years later, during the last leg of the Bad tour in 1988, Mars stationed retrograde at 11 Aries. Fifteen years after that, just prior to the police raid on his home in 2003, Mars stationed retrograde at 10 Pisces.
December 15, 1973
Jermaine Jackson became the second member of the Jackson 5 to get engaged, but this time the circumstances involved the group more closely. On December 15, 1973, Jermaine married Hazel Gordy, the only daughter of Motown boss Berry Gordy. The lavish wedding was compared by some to the recent royal wedding of British Princess Anne, and was proclaimed “the wedding of the century” by Ebony magazine.
Katherine Jackson had left the family home a month earlier, distressed by her husband’s ongoing extra-marital affairs. She came back in time for the wedding, and put on her game face for the occasion, leaving most of the guests unaware of the reality behind the matter.
Transiting Mars had just stationed direct in Aries, opposite transiting Uranus and Michael’s natal Jupiter in Libra. With Gemini rising, this transit spans the 11th and 5th houses. With Pisces rising, it spans the 2nd and 8th houses.
Transiting Neptune in Sagittarius was square Michae’s natal Sun in Virgo. This transits connects the 7th and 4th houses using the Gemini Ascendant, and connects the 10th and 7th houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
1974
February 1, 1974
The Jackson 5 expanded their global reach yet again in the new year, traveling to Africa, where they performed in Dakar, Senegal, a visit that was filmed and is the subject of a soon-to-be-released documentary. Upon arrival, the group was greeted like royalty, as Michael would later remember:
“When we came off the plane in Dakar, Senegal, Africa, we were greeted by a long line of African dancers. Their drums and sounds filled the air with rhythm. I was going crazy, I was screaming, ‘All right! They got the rhythm… This is it. This is where I come from. The origin.’”
Transiting Jupiter in Aquarius was square Michael’s natal Mars in Taurus. With Gemini rising, this transit is also conjunct the Midheaven, connecting the 9th and 12th houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 12th and 3rd houses.
Transiting Uranus was making its retrograde station conjunct Michael’s natal Jupiter in Libra, square transiting Venus retrograde in Capricorn. This transit connects the 5th and 8th houses using the Gemini Ascendant, and connects the 8th and 11th houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Mars in Taurus was square Michael’s natal Venus in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit connects the 12th and 3rd houses. With Pisces rising, it connects the 3rd and 6th houses.
Transiting Neptune in Sagittarius is square the Ascendant using the Pisces rising chart.
April 9, 1974
The Jackson family took show business to a whole new level with a new act that involved all nine siblings.
On April 9, 1974, the Jacksons began performing a Las Vegas revue-style show at the MGM Grand’s Celebrity Room, performing their own hits alongside really golden oldies for older, adult audience.
The show introduced sisters Janet, LaToya and Rebbie (although an ankle injury kept her off stage on opening night), who sang, danced and performed in skits alongside their six brothers.
With black entertainers were becoming less of a novelty in Las Vegas since the days of Sammy Davis Jr., who had been the first to perform there, and black audiences also becoming more common in the city, there was still evidence of a racial divide of sorts at the MGM, where the opening act, impressionist Frank Gorshin (think The Riddler on the old 60’s Batman TV show) closed his routine with his imitation of Al Jolson singing Mammy.
Although some of the Jackson brothers were against the idea of the show, Michael was actually allied with Joseph in favor of doing it, saying it was the logical step for the family to take.
Transiting Jupiter in Pisces was opposite Michael’s natal Sun in Virgo. With Gemini rising, this transit spans the 10th and 4th houses. With Pisces rising, it spans the 1st and 7th houses.
Transiting Uranus retrograde was conjunct Michael’s natal South Node in Libra. This transit is in the 5th house using the Gemini Ascendant, and in the 8th house using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Neptune retrograde in Sagittarius is square the Ascendant, and the transiting North Node conjunct the Midheaven in Sagittarius, using the Pisces rising chart.
September 5, 1974
The Jackson 5’s next album, Dancing Machine, was released on September 5, 1974, and featured a new version of the title track, which had originally been released on their previous album, Get It Together.
Now more disco than straight funk, the album’s contemporary sound made a very strong contrast to the group’s ongoing old-fashioned revue-style family shows, which they continued to perform throughout 1974 in places like Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe and, in February 1975, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Transiting Venus was conjunct Michael’s natal Mercury retrograde in Leo. With Gemini rising, this transit is in the 3rd house. With Pisces rising, it is in the 6th house.
Transiting Neptune in Sagittarius, having stationed direct two weeks earlier, was square Michael’s natal Sun in Virgo. This transit connects the 7th and 4th houses using the Gemini Ascendant, and connects the 10th and 7th houses using the Pisces Ascendant.
Transiting Jupiter retrograde in Pisces was opposite the transiting Sun in Virgo, both square the transiting Lunar Nodes in Gemini-Sagittarius. With Gemini rising, the transiting South Node is conjunct the Ascendant. With Pisces rising, transiting Jupiter retrograde is conjunct the Ascendant and natal Moon.

Michael Jackson Lives: Investigating His Birth Time 1970-1974 » The Celebrity Astrology Blog…
Part three of an eleven-part blog series investigating Michael Jackson’s elusive time of birth. Continuing the detailed transit chronology, this chapter covers important events in MJ’s life between the years 1970-1974….
