Mercury Retrograde Comes Back to Haunt Prince Harry

Posted by Patrick Watson on January 11, 2009 at 4:05 pm3 Comments

Prince Harry is in deep trouble. Again. This time for comments he made in 2006 that could be construed as racist. Oh dear. A classic case of Mercury retrograde coming back to bite you in the ass.

Mercury has just stationed retrograde. Prince Harry was born on September 15th, 1984, 4:20 PM, Paddington, England. This was 8 days after Mercury stationed direct, close enough to make the Mercury retrograde cycles quite relevant for him. You can see in red, his Mercury in the 9th is also square Uranus in the 12th. This really is someone who could be prone to creating controversy out of nowhere (Uranus in 12th) with off-color statements about foreigners and foreign places (Mercury in 9th). Remember the Nazi costume controversy in January 2005? That was exactly when Uranus in Pisces opposed his Mercury in Virgo.

Various news outlets report that he made the remarks in question in 2006 at an airport before going to a mission or training exercise in Cyprus. Harry was in Cyprus of March, 2006. And you guessed it, Mercury was retrograde in Pisces from March 3rd to March 26th in 2006. So in other words something he said during a previous Mercury retrograde period came to light in another Mercury retrograde period. Kind of like a timebomb. Continuing the Mercury-Uranus theme, Mercury happened to station direct while conjunct Uranus. It seems like this current Mercury retrograde station was acting as a trigger for the other slower moving transits he is having.

Both malefics are pummeling him. In red, you can see Mars is transiting his Ascendant, indicating the frustration and anger directed at him right now. The more troubling transit is retrograde Saturn on his Sun, outlined in blue.  Harry is a Lieutenant in the army, and the British army does not take racism lightly. News of the World reports “Officers guilty of racism within the Army face ‘major administrative action’ for misconduct and a range of punishments from written censure to being booted out of the service.” And today we received the news that a formal Army inquiry is being made into the matter.

He has apologized profusely for the remarks, insisting they were all in good fun and more affectionate and playful than demeaning and insulting. Still, the remarks may have some broader consequences because of his status as a royal family member. It may increase the tensions among Islamic groups in Britain who were already furious that he went to go fight Muslims in Afghanistan. It may also cause headaches for military recruiters trying to recruit Britain’s minorities. And he’ll have to answer to his grandmother the Queen, whom he thoroughly dissed. She is not amused.

Watch what you say, you might hear about it later!
