Madonna and A-Rod, Venus Square Neptune

Posted by Patrick Watson on November 30, 2008 at 3:39 amOne Comment

I wrote an article about the astrology of Madonna’s divorce with Guy Ritchie a little while ago, but as the story continued to develop in the headlines of celebrity news sites across the web, I felt I had to follow it up another article.

Hot off divorces from other people, continued reports suggest Andrew Rodriguez and Madonna are now each other’s main squeezes.

So what do the stars have to say?

Synastry Between Madonna and A-Rod

Madonna (8/16/1958, 7:05 AM, Bay City, MN) is on the inner wheel, Andrew Rodriguez (7/27/1975, unknown time, New York, NY) is on the outer wheel.

You can see they were both born at the same phase of the Venus-Neptune cycle, when Venus is in a superior square to Neptune Madonna in blue, A-Rod in red. Many people were born with Venus-Neptune squares, but one thing that makes A-Rod’s Venus special to Madonna is that his Venus is conjunct her Ascendant, while square Neptune.

The fact that his Venus is specifically conjunct her Ascendant is interesting  considering how important Venus transiting her Ascendant has been in her career.  Check out astrologer Nick Dagan Best’s Star Stories article about Madonna here for more information about that.

Venus Square Neptune

Venus is the planet of love, beauty, and affection. Neptune is the planet of fantasy, unreality, imagination, and high ideals of a transcendent nature, but also disillusionment. A square between two planets either shows that they are bound together by purpose or are at cross-purposes. Venus and Neptune have more feminine or passive natures in general, so they are more collaborative rather than antagonistic with each other. So someone who has a Venus-Neptune square is likely to be highly idealistic or unrealistic in matters of the heart, elevating romance to a more spiritual, transcendent experience. It’s like being drunk, complete with a hangover of disillusionment when the dream isn’t able to live up to reality, or when the booze finally wears off, as it were. In this way, Neptune can sometimes be subtly deceptive and destructive.

Considering all this, it’s interesting that People magazine reported that a source close to the situation described the relationship between Madonna and A-Rod as “spiritual, emotional and romantic.” US magazine reported that a friend of A-Rod’s quoted him as saying about Madonna

She’s my f#@!ing soulmate, dude.

It is also worth noting that they have come together under nebulous and questionable circumstances, i.e., they were both still married to other people.  Sounds like Neptune alright.

Venus Retrograde

But that’s not even the whole story. Fox News reported that A-Rod sublet an apartment in July 2007 specifically to go meet up with Madonna. July 2007. That’s right, this has been going on for more than a year! And any astute astrologer should remember that July 2007 was the month that Venus went retrograde in Virgo. Not only that, but A-Rod was born just 10 days before Venus stationed retrograde in Virgo, which would make the retrograde cycles of that particular planet very relevant for him.

Of course, they are relevant for Madonna as well. At the last Venus retrograde in Virgo-Leo, in 2007, things were happening between her and A-Rod. 8 years before that in 1999, again during the Venus retrograde in Virgo-Leo, Madonna met Guy Ritchie.

So is this the beginning of a new Venus period for Madonna, lasting 8 years until the next Venus retrograde in Virgo-Leo in 2015?  In order to find out we simply have to watch what happens between them when Venus makes hard contacts in the sky with Neptune, and when Venus goes retrograde.

Fortunately we don’t have long to wait to see what happens, since Venus will conjoin Neptune on December 27th, 2008 at 22 Aquarius, while in opposition to Madonna’s natal Sun.  On March 6th, 2009, Venus will station retrograde in Aries. Under the same Venus retrograde cycle 8 years earlier Madonna and Guy Ritchie were already married.  The upcoming Venus-Neptune conjunction seems pretty close to New Years, so that seems like a good night to propose. Good luck.

  • [...] Madonna and Guy Ritchie. It lasted a lot longer than we’ve come to expect from Madonna, so this was noteworthy. She didn’t have time for Guy, too busy trying to defy the aging process, stay a relevant celebrity, and save the world, oh and schmoozing with A-Rod. Meanwhile, Guy Ritchie’s Sun in Virgo has been caught between Saturn and Uranus, not the best place to be. We have already covered this all in greater detail, so you can read those articles about Madonna/Ritchie here and MadRod here. [...]
