Hillary Clinton Becomes Secretary of State

Posted by Patrick Watson on November 23, 2008 at 7:38 amOne Comment

There is an ancient Hellenistic astrological timing procedure known as “annual profections” which can prioritize the importance of certain transits a person may have in a given year of their life. Each sign in a chart is said to preside over a specific year of life. The ascending sign rules over the 1st year of life, the next sign rules over the 2nd year of life, and so on. So you are in a 1st house profection at the ages of 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, etc. You are in a 2nd house profection at the ages of 1, 13, 25, 37, 49, etc.

Hillary turned 61 this past October, so she is in her 2nd house profection year. Her 2nd house is Sagittarius. She has Jupiter there, and it is of the sect in favor, in its own domicile, and having just made an ingress before she was born. It already looks like a good year! This means all the ingresses/regresses, retrograde/direct stations, transits to and from Jupiter are intensified for the year, as well as the transits through the sign of Sagittarius.

Obama and Hillary sat down to talk about the position on November 13th, 2008, in Chicago, Illinois. The next day the media went into a speculation frenzy about a possible Clinton secretary of state, as you might expect from seeing her most prominent transit that day, because the Sun was exactly on her Ascendant/Mercury. Note that this was happening right before the avalanche of planets about to ingress into Sagittarius.

The first planet to ingress into Sagittarius was Mars, which arrived just 3 days after the first talk.   Quickly the focus turned to the possible obstacles and complications to her nomination, mainly concerning possible conflicts of interest with her husband’s financial dealings and philanthropy work. As Mars made its ingress it also conjoined her Jupiter because it is so early in the sign.  And so Mars, the planet of conflict, was posing a threat to her Jupiter, the planet of opportunity.

On November 21st, 2008, the New York Times reported that Clinton had chosen to accept the position, and that was the day the Sun made its ingress into Sagittarius and conjoined her Jupiter. And so the Sun, which has a principle of selection, conjoined Jupiter, and thus she chose to accept the opportunity before her.

Today, November 23rd, 2008, Mercury made its ingress into Sagittarius. Now everyone is really talking about it.  Even astrology bloggers. Another general note is that a Mercury superior conjunction with the Sun will be happening in this time period. I speculate that a superior conjunction of an interior planet is when the seeds are planted for whatever will come about at the inferior conjunction. In this case, the next inferior conjunction occurs on January 20th, 2009, Inauguration Day. So Obama will be announcing the majority of the new administration at the superior conjunction, and they will start working at the inferior conjunction. Keep track of what happens at each phase of Mercury, they can offer very simple but solid correlations like these.

The Obama team has said it will make an official announcement after Thanksgiving. If they wanted to get as much publicity as possible, the day after Thanksgiving, a Friday, wouldn’t make much sense, and nor would a weekend day. The most likely candidate for the official announcement then is the next Monday, December 1st.

On December 1st, 2008, the Moon, Venus and Jupiter conjoin in Capricorn, exactly sextile both Hillary’s Moon and Mercury, a profected transit from Jupiter. At the same time, the Sun, Mercury and Mars are conjunct in Sagittarius, the sign of the annual profection. These transits may symbolize both the future benefits and problems with her nomination.

So certainly, the annual profections method is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. The transits of planets through Sagittarius have proven and will prove to be more important than other years, when Sagittarius was not profected.

The next big profected event for Hillary is Jupiter’s ingress into Aquarius, which will happen just 2 weeks before Inauguration Day. So obviously, Jupiter ingressing into Aquarius is generally going to be about the ushering in of new philosophies and leaders of the incoming Obama administration. For Clinton it is a more personal experience because of her high rank in the administration as Secretary of State, and hence the personal annual profection of Jupiter.
